Stress Relief Tea Recipe

Feel stressed? Here's a simple herbal tea recipe that can help bring inner peace and provide a holistic approach to stress management naturally and gently. These powerful botanicals work synergistically to combat stress, improve sleep quality, and enhance cognitive function.

Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is classified as a nervine and is used to soothe a frayed nervous system and ease an anxious and overactive mind. It promotes proper and restorative sleep and can help when restlessness, wakefulness, and interrupted sleep are the main concerns.

Studies suggest Passionflower may help manage anxiety symptoms and that its calming effects result from influencing the activity of neurotransmitters such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which plays a role in relaxation.

Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) is classified as an adaptogen meaning it helps bring the body back to balance in the face of physical and mental stress. In addition to supporting a healthy stress response, the herb may also help maintain blood sugar levels within a normal range, decrease inflammation, and promote longevity. Holy Basil counters metabolic stress through normalization of blood glucose and lipid levels.

As a nootropic, Holy Basil is used to support mood, promote relaxation, and reduce stress. Nootropics are herbs that are used to support cognitive function and executive functions like focus, memory, creativity, or motivation in healthy individuals.

Vervain (Verbena officinalis) has a long reputation as a sacred plant. In ancient Egypt, it was considered a divine plant and was thought to have sprung from the tears of the goddess Isis as she mourned the death of the god Osiris. It was sacred to the Persians, Druids, and the Romans and Greeks, who believed the plant was holy and used it's branches to purify their temple altars.

Vervain helps to promote relaxation, calm and to reduce anxiety. It's an uplifting herb that can brighten the mood and ease tension and stress. The herb is also effective in promoting deep, restful sleep without contributing to grogginess in the morning.

Oat Straw (Avena sativa) is a restorative herb that supports healthy sleep patterns and maintains a healthy nervous system. In 1987, the German Commission E declared the herb an effective remedy for anxiety and stress.

Oat Straw is rich in vitamins and minerals, especially potassium and magnesium, which are more predominant when the seed is in the milky stage. The relaxing properties of magnesium are well-noted and may in part contribute to the herb's support for the nervous system especially when weakness is associated with stress and exhaustion.

The herb has been recommended for fatigue and over time regular use may increase an individual’s stamina and strength. The herb shows promise in mood regulation and studies suggest the it might help reduce stress, anxiety, and even symptoms of mild depression.

Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) is a gentle, nourishing, and restorative herb to a frazzled nervous system. Traditionally, its been used for its calming properties, to support exhausted nerves resulting from mental and physical exhaustion, to ease muscle tension, and to support normal sleep patterns.

Skullcap is truly a herb for our modern and hectic times and may be used to restore balance to overworked and overscheduled individuals. It helps to relieve occasional tension and stress, circular thoughts, and nervousness. It can be used throughout the day during occasional stressful situations or at night before bed to calm worried thoughts and promote normal, healthy sleep.

The traditional uses of Skullcap have spurred scientific interest in its potential health benefits. Studies suggest Skullcap may have anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects through its influence on the activity of certain neurotransmitters, such as GABA, which plays a role in relaxation. Skullcap may also offer some relief from tension headaches, although the mechanisms of action are not fully understood.

This is an incredible plant that helps the body soften, release, and let go of the day’s tension.
